    Abdul Wahid Soomro was born on October 21, 1962 in village Mohammad Hashim Soomro of Thatta, Sindh. He was the son of Ex-MNA Mohammad Khan Soomro who is the closed friend of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. he went to Cadet College Petaro (CCP) for further studies. He did his matriculation and intermediate from the Cadet College Petaro (CCP). He started his political career in his student life in 1981. He got member ship in Sindh People Student Federation (SPSF) and then became the President of Sindh People Student Federation (SPSF) unit Liaquat Medical College (LMC). Jamshoro, He graduated from Liaquat Medical College (LMC), Jamshoro, and Sindh in 1989 and he also got the degree of B.Sc from Sindh University. On 18th of February 2008 he was elected the Member of National Assembly of Pakistan from NA-237

World Bank OKs over $400 mn in Pakistan flood aid

WASHINGTON: The World Bank said on Thursday it had approved over $400 million in credit to help Pakistan rebuild from massive flooding, some of the first aid to flow from the lender since the disaster.
The World Bank said it approved $300 in credit to help pay for imports of food, medicine, tents, fuel and machinery. It said the funds were part of the Bank's $1 billion commitment to Pakistan in this fiscal year.
The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank are conducting a damage assessment of the floods. It said preliminary figures show more than 1.8 million homes were damaged or destroyed, which had displaced over 8 million people.
“The credit is part of the first phase of the World Bank's strategy to assist with flood recovery in Pakistan,” said Rachid Benmessaoud, World Bank country director for Pakistan.
In addition, the World Bank said it approved a $130 million credit line to repair Pakistan's highway system, much of which was destroyed by the floods.

Pakistan must use aid responsibly: World Bank

UNITED NATIONS: The World Bank and the United States on Sunday urged Pakistan to take steps to reassure donor countries that it is capable of using their flood aid responsibly and transparently and that it can enact reforms.
Massive flooding in Pakistan began in late July and swept through the country, leaving an area almost the size of England under water. The United Nations has said the floods affected more than 20 million people, damaged or destroyed nearly 1.9 million homes and killed 1,700 people.
World Bank President Robert Zoellick told a high-level UN meeting on Pakistan that Islamabad would have to prove its ability to manage foreign aid ahead of an October meeting in Brussels to review a flood damage assessment report the World Bank and Asian Development Bank are preparing.

World Bank, IMF agree to give $550m

WASHINGTON: The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have agreed to jointly provide more aid to flood-hit Pakistan during the current fiscal year but both also insisted that the country needed to continue its economic reforms, officials said on Thursday.

“In response to this (flood), I will ask the IMF Board to approve $450 million in emergency assistance to be made available this month,” said IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

“The World Bank is committed to helping the people of Pakistan during this time of need and has made $1 billion available to finance immediate recovery needs and longer-term reconstruction,” said the bank’s President Robert B. Zoellick while adding another $100 million to $900 million already committed.

The additional $100 million, announced after Mr Zoellick’s meeting with Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh on Wednesday, will be made available during the current fiscal year.

The money will come from the bank’s fund for the poorest countries, the International Development Association, which means that the loans are concessional and carry no interest payments. This funding is already programmed money for Pakistan that is being diverted to meet immediate needs.
