Pillion riding ban continues: Mirza
KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulifqar Mirza announced on Monday that the ban on pillion riding will continue, justifying his orders he said that the government can’t lift ban due to increasing targeted killings in the metropolis.
Mirza had announced on Saturday in Hyderabad while talking to the media that the ban was being lifted respecting the wishes of the people of Karachi but the CCPO Karachi Fayaz Laghari at that time said that the police had not received any written orders. The Sindh Home Department after few hours said that the ban would be lifted after the by-polls at PS-94. It was expected that the home department will issue the orders on Monday (today). But, the home minister said: “We can’t lift the ban on pillion riding due to target killings.”
The ban on pillion riding was imposed in November 2008.
GOVT LIKELY TO RETAIN PILLION RIDING BAN IN KARACHI
Despite the announcement of Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza to lift pillion riding ban in Karachi, a formal notification has not be issued in this regard.
It is being feared that the ban could be retained in the wake of the latest killing spree in the metropolis.
The Home Department was due to issue a formal notification today (Monday). But sources say that police has requested the minister to reconsider his decision.
In a fresh wave of violence, 37 people were killed in the past 48 hours in Karachi.
People had welcomed the decision of Zulfiqar Mirza to withdraw the ban on pillion-riding.
