Legacy of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto the founder of Pakistan people’s party and the prime minister of Pakistan is the great leader of 2oth century. After Qaeda-e-Azam Muhammad Ali he is the only leader that have charismatic personality to attracts the people and creates long lasting affects in Pakistani politics and society. He was socialist and came in power through his motto of Roti Kapra aur Makan for all. He was foreign minister of Ayub and resigned from cabinet after Tashkent declaration. He mobilize the masses against dictator regime and the biggest achievement of Bhutto is that he brings the politics in mass, Bhutto transformed drawing room politics to the mass politics. Politics was restricted to elites and it was elite’s game. He started mass politics in Pakistan.

Now every party speaks about poor. Every party claims to be representative of poor people and proclaim to solve poor man issues. It was Bhutto legacy that now it slogan of every party to solve poor man issues. An interesting point regarding Bhutto legacy is the division of Pakistani politics in two groups after him.


First the Anti-Bhutto those are opponent of Bhutto.
The second Bhutto that favors Bhutto and support his ideas.
The political division is still carry on; it is great honor for him that his opponents introduce them with his name as anti Bhutto. His opponents relay on Bhutto to introduce himself. When Bhutto started to mobilize common men Pakistan elite snicker that Bhutto supporter are common worker and Bhutto transformed this snicker to bhuttoism. There are two Bhutto one he and second every one so he twist a snicker to Bhuttoism.There is every one Bhutto. Bhuttoism is yet in practice in Pakistan Politics. Bhutto may be not succeeded to fulfill all of its pledges but gave a power to poor men. He gave sense of pride, honor and power to common men that are his great legacy. In traditional hierarchical system in which the old colonial custom are fallowed Bhutto emerge as a ray of light and bring a revolution on masses. There is a romance about the Bhutto as he died in young age so Bhutto character will never old and it will remain young in people’s imaginations. He was well dressed and young Politian with great power and enthusiasm.

Bhutto was peak in its views; he was first politician that brought foreign policy in domestic politics. He started relations with china that will very beneficial in later time. The first time introduced anti-Americanism in politics. There are two character of Bhutto personality as lover of poor and feudal. His love with poor came from his mother as she was out of Bhutto family and faced resistant and problems after marriage in Bhutto family. His feudal character is come in his personality due to his father as big feudal of Sindh. He used brutal measure and victimized opponents to suppress them. Another criticism on Bhutto is that he sees but plays no role to stop division of East Pakistan. He started Pakistan nuclear program .Bhutto impact on Pakistan politics is long lasting and very deep in society.
