Fresh wave of target killings in Karachi: five dead
KARACHI: In a fresh wave of target killings, at least five people were gunned down in different areas of the city around midnight on Sunday.
Police said three activists of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (formerly proscribed Sipah-i-Sahaba) came under fire in Sector 11-E of New Karachi. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Police said Ansar, his brother Nabeel and Noman were sitting near a teashop when they were attacked by gunmen who were on a motorbike. Karachi West DIG Sultan Khawaja told Dawn that initial information suggested that the three were activists of the proscribed Sipah-i-Sahaba.
An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in F.B. Area and another in Korangi. According to police, Farhan, 28, was attacked in the Yousaf Plaza area. The attackers who were on a motorbike escaped.
Earlier, Dilawar Masih, 30, was killed in Korangi when he was sitting outside his house. His killers also were on a motorcycle. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.
